Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions about 20Forge, answered with honesty (and a bit of magic)

Why does 20Forge exist?

Being an RPG Master is already hard enough. Creating stories, improvising NPCs, adjusting encounters, preparing atmospheres, and still navigating through 27 different tabs steals time and drains energy from the table.

20Forge was born to solve this. One place with fast, beautiful tools created especially for Masters, to name characters, create tokens, prepare ambient sound, and soon, build entire worlds within The Forge.

You create stories. We forge the tools.

What is 20Forge?

20Forge is a free toolkit for tabletop RPG Game Masters. TokenAnvil makes tokens worthy of any VTT, SoundAltar sets the mood without you having to type "relaxing tavern lofi" into YouTube every session, and Thome generates epic names when your creativity decides to roll a 1. Coming soon: The Forge, a dedicated campaign command center where lore, NPCs, maps, timelines and sessions all live in one place, without the 27 browser tabs.

What will The Forge be?

The Forge will be 20Forge's main product: a worldbuilding workspace built from the ground up for RPG Game Masters. Not a virtual tabletop. It won't replace Roll20 or Foundry, and it definitely won't roll dice for you. Think of it as your campaign headquarters: lore, NPCs, maps, timelines and session notes, all connected, all in one place. Fewer tabs. More GM.

What tools are available right now?

Three. And each one does what it needs to in seconds: Thome generates an epic name before you finish thinking about the character, TokenAnvil turns any image into a professional token in under a minute, and SoundAltar gets an ambient track playing with one click. That's it. All three will eventually connect inside The Forge, forming one unified campaign toolkit.

How is The Forge different from World Anvil?

World Anvil is great for writing and publishing elaborated lore. Perfect if you want to build a 300-page encyclopedia for your campaign. The Forge is built for the chaos of active play: prepping sessions the night before, remembering that NPC the party killed had a twin brother, and having an AI that actually knows who Seraphina Voss is. Different tools for different moments.

Do I need an account?

TokenAnvil, SoundAltar and Thome all work without an account. When The Forge launches, a free account will be required to save worlds, NPCs and campaign notes. No tricks, no traps. Not even a mimic disguised as a login button.

Can I use The Forge to plan a TPK?

We don't judge. The Forge stores villain motivations, dungeon layouts and secret traps just as faithfully as your heroes' backstories. Plan your TPK in peace. We did add a 'villain' tag for NPCs. Just saying.

Can I suggest features?

Yes, and we genuinely mean it. Join our Discord and tell us what you need. We can't promise a button that always rolls a natural 20... but everything else is negotiable. Your ideas have already shaped the roadmap.

Does The Forge have a dark mode?

It's a tool built by and for people who stay up until 3am prepping sessions. Dark mode isn't a feature. It's a lifestyle. Yes, it's the default. Light mode exists, but we had to hide it behind a dragon hoard of settings so no one finds it by accident. But if you use it... we'll know. 👀

Is 20Forge really free?

Yes, and no strings attached. No feature locks, no annoying upgrade banners, no capabilities hidden behind a paywall. If it ever becomes paid, it'll be because the product got good enough that spending 2 gold coins on it actually makes sense. One caveat: Arcane Intelligence will almost certainly be paid. It carries a real operational cost. But it'll be worth it. I promise.

What TTRPG systems does it support?

The Forge is system-agnostic. D&D 5e, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Tormenta 20 or that homebrew system you invented in a fever dream last Tuesday that still doesn't have a name. It works for any tabletop RPG campaign.

When does The Forge launch?

Roll a d20 Perception check. Success! You detect flames at the forge, glowing metal, and the sound of hammering. We're in Act II of the roadmap, shaping the platform core. Expected launch: second half of 2026. Join the waitlist to be notified when early access opens.

What is Arcane Intelligence?

It's The Forge's built-in AI, but with one key difference: it knows your campaign, not the internet. It knows the Baron has been the villain disguised as an ally since Session 3, that Porto Cinza was destroyed in Act I, and that the NPC the party ignored is coming back. No copy-pasting context into a generic chat. Just ask.

Can I use it during in-person sessions?

Absolutely. TokenAnvil prints great at the table. SoundAltar fills any room with atmosphere. And The Forge's mobile-ready design means you can pull up that NPC's backstory mid-session without hauling a laptop into the dungeon.

What if my players find The Forge?

A wise GM protects their notes like Vecna protected his eye and hand. The Forge has a dedicated GM-only layer: your secrets, traps and plot twists stay hidden. Unless you share your screen. That one's on you.

Are tokens created in TokenAnvil mine to keep?

Yes. You own everything you create. Use tokens in campaigns, videos, streams or VTTs. We're not treasure-hoarding dragons. Well, maybe a little. But not with your tokens.
